Hi, I’m Steven Bentley — a television director, radio programmer, weather enthusiast, and digital media producer based in Jeffersonville, Kentucky. For over two decades, I’ve been telling stories, producing live broadcasts, building online platforms, and helping people stay informed — especially when it matters most.
🎥 Television & Live Production
Since 2013, I’ve been the lead evening newscast director at WLEX-TV in Lexington, KY. From directing nightly news to major live events like BBN Tonight, our University of Kentucky sports program, I’ve worked at the intersection of storytelling and technical execution.
My work has been recognized with:
- 🏆 Regional Emmy Award for Kentucky Derby coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic
- 📰 Edward R. Murrow Award for breaking news coverage of a sheriff’s deputy’s death and the subsequent manhunt in 2024
I also create motion graphics for news segments and client campaigns — turning complex stories into clear, engaging visuals.
📻 Radio & Audio Production
Outside of television, I manage operations for WSGC-FM, a country station in Elberton, Georgia. Since 2020, I’ve handled programming, voice-tracking, and the station’s website. My earlier radio experience spans several Georgia and Kentucky stations, where I’ve held on-air, technical, and digital roles — including:
- WSB-AM and WKLS-FM in Atlanta
- WNGC-FM, WGMG-FM, and WGAU-AM in Athens
- WCYO-FM in Richmond, KY
Radio has always kept me grounded in real-time communication and local connection.
🌦️ Weather Communication & Tech Integration
Weather has been a lifelong passion — I’ve proudly been a self-proclaimed weather nerd since childhood. Over the years, I’ve played a role in helping communities stay informed during severe weather events, both as a voice on the radio and as a live television director during breaking news coverage.
Most recently, I’ve joined a friend and former colleague Meteorologist Greg Majewski on his digital weather initiative called “Weather Nerds Unite” and the “North Georgia First Alert Weather Center.” In this collaboration, I’ve consulted on the visual design, developed code for weather crawls, and contributed to scripting interactive weather map functionality — merging meteorology with my experience in media, web, and graphic systems.
💻 Web Development & Digital Media
I’ve been building websites since 1996, back when every tag was hand-coded in HTML. My early projects included a fan site for the TV game show The Joker’s Wild, and I’ve since gone on to develop sites for radio stations, internal newsrooms, and hyper-local news portals like “Local Yocal” for Wallingford Broadcasting.
In addition to full-stack site creation, I’ve designed graphics, flyers, billboards, and sales pitches — ensuring every project stays visually compelling and technically sound.
👨👩👧👦 Personal Life
I’ve been married to Valerie since 2002, and we’re proud parents of two grown children — one currently attending Eastern Kentucky University, and the other working as an over-the-road truck driver. At home, I’m usually exploring new tech projects or hanging out with our furry family: Princess the cat and Ringo the dog.
